Social Studies;
All groups presented their social studies ideas to the class today. Many marvellous presentations with websites, glogsters, cupcakes, quizzes and many other fascinating presentation methods! The class voted on the project we want to take on as our own and in first place came raising money for ROWW. Thank you to all the groups for presenting their ideas. Math: Groups were given time to work on their board games. These are due next Monday! Ted Ed: Another great round of ted talks today. Continue taking notes and looking for your favourite ted talk. Presentation schedule and rubric is to the right side on my blog. Drama: Documentaries are coming along nicely! Students should remember to film in school and out of school to come up with a creative movie/documentary on a certain topic! Reminders:

Students worked on their board games that are due on Thursday, May 21. The game boards must have many different outcomes and the students must include probability sentences to accompany their game. The games have been looking really well done! Awesome job everyone. Ted Ed: Another day of amazing ted talks! The talks have been going really well. Students are reminded that power points are to have pictures and no words! They act as an accompaniment for what you are saying but are not to distract the audience from what is being said. We will continue to Tuesday. Social Studies: Students continue to work on preparing their social studies project idea for Tuesday. On Tuesday students will present their idea for a fundraiser to the class. The one with the most votes wins. The other projects are due the following Tuesday to bring awareness to important events in our global history. Drama: Groups can continue to plan for filming their documentary. Reminders:
Congratulations to Jessica P for winning the game ball this week as she has taken on a lot of responsibility and leadership especially helping with extra curricular activities. Math:
Today we started a probability assignment! The task is to complete a board game with a partner or in a group of three. Your board game should have many outcomes and you will need to write down with your board game all the possible outcomes. You will be making this game for the class to play next Thursday! You are allowed to award points to students that win at your game. Ted Ed: Excellent first presentations today! During the ted talks, students wrote down things that they learnt about that they did not know before, questions they still had and they also wrote down the number of reasons the idea is worth spreading. Thank you to our ted talk presenters and tomorrow we will hear five more! Thanks Ella for being our photographer! Social studies: Social studies ideas will be presented to the class next Tuesday May 19. All ideas should be ready to be voted on by fellow classmates. The idea should be presented with one of our level four ideas for presenting. All other presentations that are designed to bring awareness about the topic will be presented the following week. Drama: Great progress today with documentary making! Make sure you have a plan before you go off to film certain things! Reminders:
Math:
Students wrote their understanding of four probability words today. They will use these words later on this week to create an interesting project! Ted Ed: Please see presentation schedule for when your ted talk is to be presented. Social studies: A reminder that all social studies "ideas" should be ready to be presented next Tuesday. We will hear all the ideas and then the class will vote on one project to make our own. We will carry this project out sometime in June for the entire school to raise money for that foundation. Reminders:
Social studies:
Due to an adjustment with the project idea, all projects are now to be presented to the class as an "idea" and then the class will vote on one to make their own. Awareness is also a great thing to raise instead of just asking students to bring in money! We will re plan how to make this project work for our school community. The brainstorming activity we did this morning to write about why raising money for a certain charity is important and how you can do this was a lead up activity for our social studies projects. Ted Ed; Ted ed projects are almost due! All speeches should be written by Thursday and speeches should be practiced and timed so that they are within the five to ten minute mark. I will upload the rubric and presentation schedule to the right of this post! Math: Probability has started and is being discussed daily. The Kahoot today looked at using probability words to describe different situations. Tomorrow we will continue this activity with a writing activity about probable outcomes. Reminders:
Amazing enthusiasm shown by everyone today in support of dress up as a character day (from Harry Potter!) It was so amazing to see our class spirit and I think you truly inspired many students around the school! I know I was very happy to see everyone so into all activities today.
Math: We will continue working on probability next week. It was awesome today to see many students try out probable outcomes with locations/things in the Harry Potter world! Congratulations to Emma and Ella for getting their whole card filled. Ted Ed: Continue working on this over the weekend and the last in class work period for the actual talk will be on Monday! Social studies: Continue to research about your charity or event and think about ways that you as a Canadian citizen can help in some ways. Especially think about different initiatives you know of or ones you can start! Reminders:
Talent Show!
Today was our talent show! All students did an amazing job performing, helping and cleaning up the gym! Thanks so much for everyone's patience and hard work! I hope all students would consider auditioning for future shows! Drama: Hannah and Emma took the amazing initiative to organize our classes next drama task. We will be creating short films of any chosen topic (non-fiction or fiction). Students are in groups of two and there are two groups of four. Students will sign up their video names with Hannah and Emma! Cannot wait to see the amazing films students will create. Reminders:
